Question: Does it matter how tall I am?

Answer: Most of our clients book our models for print work.  We don't have the same rigid height requirements most fashion models and modeling agencies have.  This means you can still model even if you are under 5'9" tall!  See shorter models who have been successful models

Question: I'm looking for more information about your company. Can you send me some?

Answer:  Actually we will once we get the chance to see if you have model potential.  Until then there are over 50 pages of fashion modeling information right here that will tell you all about what we do and what we have done for other fashion models and print models!

Question: Do you have references I can check?

Answer:   Sure!   The first thing you can do is call our offices and talk to a real  live model representative at (217) 345-9555.  More Model Look contact information is available here.  They are available to speak with you 9am to 5pm Mon. - Fri. (Central Time Zone).   Please note we are not open holidays.   Next you may call and confirm that we are an upstanding, caring company by calling  the Charleston Chamber of Commerce at (217) 345-7041.   They can give you a complete history of our 20 years in business!    We also have an excellent rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Why won't we give you other models' numbers to call as references?   Well let's say you are the other model in this case and we have 10 or 15 models calling your house every day asking you all about the modeling opportunities you have done with Model Look.   It would drive you and your family crazy after the first day, let alone a month.   The staff at the Charleston Chamber of Commerce is prepared to handle your questions about a professional business they know personally.  Again their number is (217) 345-7041.

Question: Where can I buy Model Look Magazine?

Answer:  Model Look Magazine is sold by subscription only.  Think for just a moment.   How many models are there in your hometown area?   Not enough to justify putting it on the magazine rack at your local supermarket.  That's the reason Elle magazine's "Top Model" was only published for 2 years before ceasing publication in 1997.  Modeling is a small but elite type of business and if Elle Magazine couldn't make a success of their great magazine on the magazine racks, then the readers just aren't there in the consumer market.  Get a Model Look Magazine subscription

Question: Everyone tells me I'm cute, they all say I should be a model.  What do you think?

Answer:  The only way for us to tell is when you send in photos for a FREE Model Profile.  We can never tell what you look like from a letter enclosed in an envelope with no photos.  We must see photos of you to evaluate your potential as a model.   Also if you enclose photos with more than one person in the photo, please tell us which one you are.

Question: How old must I be to model for Model Look Clients?

Answer:  Female models need to be between the ages of 10 years and up to age 50 to qualify for the various clients we work with.   Male models need to be 15 to 50 years in age.

Question: I have braces, can I still be a model?

Answer: Sure you can.  Two reasons why.   One, braces are a fact of life for most teens today and they don't carry the stigma they once did in the real world.   Two,  some clients want a model to show their braces in the photograph.  Why?  The readers of the many magazines can often identify with the model in the magazine.  Also, the art of digital retouching has allowed clients to take the braces out of the picture when you are smiling and have braces.   Some models are amazed to see themselves without braces in a magazine when they knew they had them during their magazine model photo session.  Cool!

Question: Do you accept just anyone?

Answer:  Absolutely not!   We reject far more people than we ever accept.   Sorry, but we have to.  We want only people who our clients would be interested in working with.   Actually the look that's in can change in just six months, so if your look isn't in this year, it might well be in demand next year.    If you aren't model material for Model Look Magazine, we will tell you the straight truth whether you agree with us or not.   We are here to help models that we feel our clients will want to pay for magazine modeling opportunities and print modeling jobs.

Question: I live outside the U.S. Can I still model for Model Look Magazine?

Answer: Currently, we only work with people living in the U.S. because of our current market, economy and clientele.

Question: I really want to model, but my Mom says no!   Can you convince her to change her mind?

Answer:  Maybe, but we would never do it!    If your parents say no they don't want you to be a model, we will always abide by their wishes no matter how cute you are.   They know what's best for you even if we think you would make the cutest fashion model we've ever seen!   We will always respect the decisions your parents make on your behalf and so should you.

Question: Do you accept male fashion models for promotion to your clients?

Answer: Sure we do! They need to be between the ages of 15 up to age 50 to qualify.

Question: Do I have to send in professional pictures for my model evaluation?

Answer:  No, you don't!   You can send in just regular snapshots if that's what you have on hand.   Be sure to send at least one photo that shows your face up close.   The face is 80% of your model evaluation score so give us a nice headshot.  A full-length photo of yourself is important too!   Here is where you can get your Free Model Profile

Question: My printer is broken and I can't print out the model application.  Can I just write out the information on a piece of paper?

Answer: Sure you can.   Just be sure to enclose photos too.  If we can't see you, we can't evaluate your potential as a model.   Be sure to send your pictures to: Model Look Magazine-WS, 7616 N.C.R. 1800E, Charleston, IL 61920.  Maybe you should use the E-mail Model Application

Question: Will you contact me back even if I'm not selected to be a model by Model Look?

Answer:  If you send in your model pictures by mail, we will contact you back for sure if you include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your photos.   If you are selected, expect to hear from us by regular mail at your mailing address very soon!

Question: Will I get the chance to model for top clients?

Answer:  That's a really tough question.   We have had models appear in all types of fashion magazines like Teen, Seventeen, YM, Teen Vogue, Teen Magazine and many, many others.   Plus we have had fashion models who have worked for top companies like Conair, Revlon, Calvin Klein, Pantene, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi and more.  The clients are the ones that make the decision, so it will be up to them to decide if you have the current look they need to sell their products and services.

Question: Can I choose the modeling opportunities I want to do?

Answer:  No, you will be chosen by the client.   They pay the models and so they get to choose who they need for what modeling opportunities.   It is no different for major modeling agencies like Elite Modeling Agency and Ford Modeling Agency.  Their clients choose the fashion models they need, not the other way around.  The good news is that our models are able to either accept or decline any modeling opportunities that they're given so that they're in control of their schedules, preferences, etc.   Some models only want to work during the summer or 2-3 months out of the year.

Question: Will my modeling assignments occur only in big cities?

Answer:  Not always.  Some may even be in your own local area because some clients don't like to pay travel if they have the right model they can book in their own area.   On the other hand a lot of the big assignments that pay really well will come out of the larger cities throughout the U.S.   Don't pass these up!   They may well be the stepping stone that launches your fashion modeling career!   Also we have Affiliate Photography Studios located in many areas of the country you may get modeling opportunities at.    The print modeling jobs are really numerous and the model who has real ambition can be very successful!

Question: Will I have my travel paid for me?

Answer:  That depends on the client.   Some will pay all your travel to and from the fashion modeling assignment.   Some will even pay all the expenses for one parent as well if you are under the age of 18!    What a nice vacation filled with excitement and fun!   There will also be other situations where the client just doesn't have it in their budget to pay the travel.   You have the right to accept or reject any modeling assignment.   Our advice: If you are a new model about to begin a modeling career, accept all the modeling opportunities you can get even if you do have to pay your own travel.   Consider this:  What you will pay in travel to real print modeling jobs is a fraction of what it would cost you to attend modeling school and you still get on the job modeling experience.   It will be worth far more than the cost to get there!   Once you have really progressed as model, then you can pass on the modeling jobs that don't pay what you deserve and just take the ones that are the real money makers.

Question: Who are the clients that will see me?

Answer:  All types, but we do not work on any modeling assignments involving nudity,  Period!   Clients can range from magazine editors, top corporate clients like IBM and AT&T, cosmetic companies like Max Factor and Revlon, clothing designers, advertising agencies, commercial photographers, model photographers, model agents and model agencies plus lots more!

Question: Can I get a list of Model Look clients?

Answer: Sorry, but our commercial client list is strictly confidential.   After all, if you had all of our contacts in the modeling business, you really wouldn't need us!    Model Look is all about getting people just like you actual modeling opportunities.

We did at one point give out a small list of clients (with the client's permission) for models to call so they could check out Model Look.  In less than a month those clients received hundreds of telephone calls from just a few models.  Some models they said were calling over 3 times a day begging them to be hired for their next modeling assignment.   In short, we lost one of those great clients because once the name and number was out, the models just wouldn't stop calling them.   We never were able to convince that particular client to come back and work with us again after that.   Since then, we have made it a policy to never give out client phone numbers or addresses.

Question: How much will I make as a model with Model Look Magazine?

Answer:  You can make up to about $125.00 an hour.   Some fashion models have made as much as $2,000 for a 2 day modeling as a secondary fitness model in a fitness workout video. Other fashion models have made as much as $500.00 an hour doing magazine model opportunities for an editorial about teen dating!   All print modeling jobs pay different amounts based on what's in the client's budget for models. Obviously, the bigger the client, the more they usually pay.  Catalog models will make between $75.00 to $150.00 per hour. Corporate clients and advertising agencies tend to pay more!  You will know up-front what you will be making before you do each modeling opportunity.

Question: When I appear in a magazine, will I get copies?

Answer: You sure will if it is at all possible.  We often get pre-released copies of your magazines modeling opportunities before they even get to the stores.  If we do get extra copies we will send you magazine tearsheets for your portfolio.  Any additional copies you want, you  will need to buy on your own from your local newsstand or supermarket.

Question: If I sign up with Model Look, can I model for anyone else?

Answer:  You can model for anyone you want.  Your arrangement with Model Look is non-exclusive which gives you complete freedom to sign with model agencies or pursue any freelance model contract.  That allows you to be signed with other modeling agencies like Ford Modeling Agency and Elite Modeling Agency at the same time.

Question: How much do you take from my pay on each modeling job?

Answer:  Model Look never takes a percentage of your print modeling jobs.   This includes if you work for us directly.  Our models get everything they earn at the time they model.   What most models don't know is that when model agencies say they are going to take 15% or 20% from their pay, they actually are able to get 30% to 40% without the average model knowing it!   This double dipping is common and nearly all modeling agencies do it.  It works like this.   A client says they will pay $600 for your fashion modeling services.  The model agency's contract with the client states they will get 25% of the gross amount paid by the client.  So they take $150.00 leaving you a balance $450.00.  Now your modeling contract states the model agency will get 25% of the money from your print modeling jobs.   So 25% of $450 is $112.50 that the modeling agency gets, leaving you with just $337.50 of the $600 that was originally paid by the client for your fashion modeling assignment.   Hey, $337.50 is still terrific money for a half day's work!   But if the same print modeling jobs were given to you through Model Look,  you would have received the entire $600.00 for the print modeling jobs.   With Model Look Magazine you will always make your full amount without any percentage taken from your earnings.

Question: I'm thinking about going to modeling school. Should I do it?

Answer:  Only if it's something you really want to do for fun.   Modeling schools won't necessarily help you get any additional work.   Major modeling agencies like Elite Modeling Agency or Ford Modeling Agency do not require you to attend any modeling schools.  Practical experience is the best way to learn how to be a model.  Very few modeling schools teach anything other than fashion modeling tips, runway model tips and if you are less than 5'9", you won't have the chance to do any serious work as runway models anyway.   As for print modeling jobs, few modeling schools ever teach more than a roll of film in fashion print modeling!   For thousands of dollars, you have to decide if it's worth it to you.   Some of the best modeling schools you can check into are Barbizon, John Robert Powers and John Casablancas modeling schools.

Consider this for just a moment.   I can't remember the last time a client who wanted to book a model asked if the model had ever been to any modeling school.  Most likely you would be much better off spending your money getting the real tools you need begin getting modeling assignments as fashion models and getting modeling jobs like actual magazine modeling opportunities!    As an alternative you might like to try  Model Look Modeling Articles
